Introduction and Programme Aims
The programme aims to develop work-ready, skilled ICT graduates who have the necessary attributes and attitudes demanded of the ICT industry.
The focus of the programme is on practical, hands-on skills, backed by industry relevant partnerships that ensure the programme develops relevant skills that keep in line with the rapidly changing ICT landscape.
Each course has underlying concepts developed through a mixture of activities, and assessed using methods that closely model professional practice.

Graduates of the programme will:

The Polytechnic uses a student-centred approach to teaching where tutors will develop the lessons so that the students are engaged in the learning process. Students are encouraged to ask questions, and to use problem based learning strategies. Also we endeavour to create an atmosphere in the classroom where everyone is equal and free to express their opinion and share their knowledge. The role of the tutor changes from teacher to facilitator where tutors guide students, not direct them.
The programme uses a blended learning approach including; face-to-face classroom based learning, online supported delivery, project-based learning, job placement, internships, individual work, group work, and student-centred learning. An emphasis is placed on relevant practical projects in all years of the programme.
Bahrain Polytechnic aims to produce graduates who are competent and confident employees, with a reputation of being work-ready, flexible and adaptable with a strong commitment to teamwork and lifelong learning. The ICT programme seeks to align with this aim in its programme structure, assessment and teaching. A key component of this aim is the Cooperative Learning Project (CLP) which is a traditional work placement, with the requirement that students learn not only workplace skills, but also deliver a project of suitable academic and industry level.
Students undertake work placement in industry during year4. The work placement specifications are as follows:
- Placements are 15 weeks duration
- Can be allocated individually or in groups
- Bahrain Polytechnic will allocate an academic project supervisor
- The project should be directly related to the student’s major
- Projects should be completed at the host organisation’s premises
- Projects should be of benefit to the host organisation
- Payment for work completed is not expected and is at the discretion of the employer

The BICT programme is split into two sections. The first two years concentrate on developing a broad technical skills base. Because the programme is delivered in English there is a high level of English support in these first two years.
In Year 3 of the programme, students choose a major in which to specialise,. Year 4 of the programme is entirely dedicated to project work, affording students the opportunity to consolidate the knowledge gained in the previous three years. Semester A of Year 4 consists entirely of an in-house project, incorporating ICT project management, technical writing and project design and development. Semester B of Year 4 offers students the opportunity to go out into the workplace, under the supervision of both academic and industry staff to deliver a project of suitable academic and industry standard.

Every semester the Bachelor of ICT program, show cases In-house, Cooperative Learning and Research Projects. During the course of the semester, students research, analyze, design and plan a project with a view to deliver an ICT solution along with technical documentation conforming to industry standards.
