Bahrain Polytechnic has taken the initiative as an applied higher educational institution to support Think Pink Bahrain – Bahrain Breast Cancer Society, following a fruitful cooperation between both parties since 2014.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Bahrain Polytechnic and Think Pink Bahrain will see a collaboration between both parties to embed service-learning into the programmes offered at the Polytechnic, and for the embarkation on joint research projects, in addition to supporting the charity’s annual breast cancer awareness campaign.

Think Pink Bahrain and Bahrain Polytechnic have planned a series of events to support the cause on campus, beginning with having the Polytechnic as part of the route of the breast cancer awareness ride conducted by the Harley-Davidson Owners Group (H.O.G.S) on Friday, 30th September 2016.

On Tuesday, 18th October, Think Pink Bahrain will be conducting a breast cancer awareness session demonstrating how to perform breast self-examinations. Female students and staff at the Polytechnic will have the opportunity to get to know how various lumps feel like and learn about the correct pressure and techniques to detect changes in the breasts. This session will be delivered by Mrs. Julie Sprakel from Think Pink Bahrain.

The project that led to the signing was the Public Service Announcement (PSA), an internship project produced by the visual design students made for Think Pink Bahrain. The video, the first of its kind, addresses the misconceptions of breast cancer in the Arabian Gulf with an aim to raise awareness, encourage early detection and help locals make better decisions for themselves and their families.

Bahrain Polytechnic would like to encourage all students and staff to be proactive about their health and lead by example.
