Mr. Abdulkarim Al Sayed is the Chairman and CEO of Petrodar International. He joined Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) in 1965 and retired in 2009, after 44 years of service, during which he assumed numerous senior leadership positions including Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in January 2008.
Prior to his appointment as CEO, Mr. Abdulkarim held a number of leadership posts in BAPCO including Manager of Power and Utilities, General Manager of the Engineering Division, General Manager of the Maintenance Division, General Manager of the Refining Division and General Manager of Engineering. After heading several major strategic and modernisation investment projects as General Manager of Major Engineering Projects, Mr. Abdulkarim was promoted to Acting Chief Executive of Downstream Operations and later to Senior Deputy Chief Executive, ultimately being awarded the CEO role. In 2005, Mr. Abdulkarim, was appointed Chairman of the National Committee for Negotiations of Gas Imports to the Kingdom of Bahrain. He has also served as Chairman of Gulf Area Oil Companies Mutual Aid Organisation (GAOCMAO), Deputy Chairman of InJaz Bahrain, Secretary General and Vice President of the Bahrain Society of Engineers, and Member of the Supreme Council for Vocational Training. His contributions and proficiency in the development of engineering have earned Mr. Abdulkarim several prestigious awards, namely the Outstanding Engineering Pioneer award from the Gulf Engineers Federation in 2008, the Toastmasters Personality of the Year award in 2009, and a Fellowship of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) – UK, also in 2009. In addition to his responsibilities as Chairman and CEO of Petrodar International, Mr. Abdulkarim is a member of a number of professional and social organisations such as the Institution of Mechanical Engineers – UK, the Chartered Management Institute – UK, Member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Bahrain and the Bahrain Management Society. He is a Fellow of the Bahrain Society of Engineers, Founder and Board Member of the Bahrain Society for Transfer of Technology and Founder of the Bahrain Society for Strategic Planning. Mr. Abdulkarim is a registered Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) from UK and holds a First Class Honours Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from London, UK. He also holds M.Sc/DIC in Mechanical Engineering/ Thermal Power from the Imperial College of London (University of London), UK.
