Mr. Nasser Al Shaikh

Mr. Nasser Al Shaikh is the Assistant Undersecretary for General and Technical Education at the Ministry of Education, Kingdom of Bahrain. After graduating from the Teachers High Training College in 1971, he began his career as a Science and Mathematics Teacher. In 1979, Mr. Nasser was appointed to the Ministry of Education as Superintendent for Planning & Follow-up and then Head of Education Planning & Evaluation in 1999. He took charge of the Directorate of Intermediate and Secondary Education, and subsequently in 2006, by Royal Decree No. 77, he was promoted to his current position.

Mr. Nasser played an important role in the development and supervision of the implementation and follow-up strategy for the First Quality Educational Plan of the Ministry of Education (1990 1995) and presided over a team responsible for developing the fundamental directions for the development of education in Bahrain (1995 2000). He also took part in preparing several educational reports on planning, school buildings, education cost and reformation, development of teachers and education, evaluation of courses in many schools and professionalisation of education.

As an education enthusiast and passionate learner, Mr. Nasser continues his professional development through participating in several recognised educational courses, workshops, seminars and international conferences on topics such as general and strategic planning, education management, statistics, project management and information. During the 1990s, he took part in advisory meetings such as UNESCOs Executive Board meetings, UNESCOs Education Network regarding the modernisation and development of Arab States, and the Arab Education Development Strategy follow up meetings. He also participated as an expert in developing the Education Development Strategy for the GCC states in 1993 and in developing the new directions for the 21st Century Reform Programme for Arab States.

In addition to his current responsibilities, Mr. Nasser is a member of the School Performance Programme which is a part of the Ministry of Educations strategy to develop education in Bahrain.

Mr. Nasser completed his higher education in 1977, majoring in Management and Economics. He also obtained a Higher Diploma in Planning and Administration from the International Planning Institute, Paris, in 1984 and holds a Diploma in Advanced Management from the University of Bahrain. He is currently pursuing his Post-Graduate education.
