Staff from Bahrain Polytechnic participated in the “Higher Education Practice” conference held from 3rd to 5th July at Aston University, UK, among a wide range of universities and higher education institutions, where they delivered two presentations: Bahrain Polytechnic’s employability framework and problem-based learning.

Abdulridha Dismal, Bahrain Polytechnic’s Chief of the Career & Employment Centre, presented the implementation of employability skills within the Polytechnic’s curriculum. Dr. Rogellio Levardo, Acting Chief: Teaching & Learning, presented the problem-based learning framework that has been implemented in Bahrain Polytechnic since 2014 in response to train graduates to satisfy the labor market requirements.

During the conference, Mr. Dismal stated that employers in Bahrain made excellent remarks about Bahrain Polytechnic students who have either worked in their companies as interns or have worked there after graduation. He pointed out that the Polytechnic’s learning strategies have had a positive impact on the promotion and development of recruitment skills identified by a group of business owners in the Kingdom.

Mr. Dismal added: “The problem-based learning strategy, recently developed into problem and project-based learning (PPrBL), has been implemented in all of Bahrain Polytechnic’s programmes over the last five years.”

Dr. Levardo said: “The PPrBL has removed us from the traditional forms of teaching and provides a clear platform to highlight the work we have developed with the help of the Higher Education Academic in the UK.”

Ms. Ema Janahi, Bahrain Polytechnic’s Director of Academic Development Directorate, stressed on the Polytechnic’s commitment to applying the best frameworks and strategies in teaching and learning to ensure that Polytechnic graduates remain the best choice for employment. This is the second time we participated [in this conference] as part of our initiatives of the academic management to continuously develop our employees.
