Bahrain Polytechnic held its annual orientation period for its academic staff members during early September at its campus, focusing on bringing all tutors up to par on vital matters regarding the government educational institution.
Over 280 tutors attended the five day occasion, known as the “Teaching and Learning Symposium” event which was aimed at both new and current academic staff members, as the Polytechnic continues with its goal of ensuring quality education is delivered.
Oonagh McGirr, Acting Manager of Teaching & Learning stated: “It’s our job to ensure that our [new and current] academic staff are aware of what kind of teaching approach we advocate and practice at the Polytechnic.”
Key topics were covered, such as technologies used for higher education teaching, coaching and mentoring techniques and the problem-based learning approach to teaching in higher education. The induction period was delivered in variety of ways: workshops, lectures, interactive sessions and seminars.
“Bahrain Polytechnic is renowned for its problem-based learning methodology; an approach which focuses on case studies, problem solving and practical work.
“Producing work-ready graduates remains our objective.” said Ms. McGirr. “Our students are given a taste of the corporate world during their studies. The mix of practical and theoretical learning results in the perfect learning strategy.”
Acting CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic, Dr. Mohamed Al-Aseeri thanked the faculty who participated during the orientation period and wished the new tutors the best of luck, as the Polytechnic takes another step to meet Bahrain’s 2030 Vision and the governments 2011-2014 work programme.
