A tough yet exciting encounter at the Bahrain International Karting Circuit resulted in Bahrain Polytechnic finishing second place in the “Bahrain Karting Endurance Championship 2015” corporate race; a day long karting race which brought together various teams from across the globe. At the Professional race, the Polytechnic finished fifth place.

Initiated on Friday 27th February and ended the following day, the winner is determined by the most amounts of laps completed until Saturday afternoon.

The twenty-four hour race required a combination of concentration and expertise to endure the 1000 lap race, which both students and staff took part in.

Mohammed Rashdan, the captain of the team, said: “It was a full throttle racing weekend. Our team put in many training hours to be ready for this year’s race.

“To be frank, it was a different experience compared to last year; it was a tense 24-hour race. Credit to all the teams that have participated this year, as they were well prepared and competitive despite the harsh climate conditions.

“We would like to thank Bahrain Polytechnic for giving our team [of students and staff] another opportunity to race. The competition itself taught us about teamwork and endurance, and we hope to come back next year more stronger.” added the captain.

Last year, Bahrain Polytechnic finished first place in the corporate race. Acting CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic, Dr. Mohamed Al Aseeri, insisted that while the team took second place this year, he believes dedication and teamwork were the necessary attributes to persevere and reap the second place reward at the end.

He said after the race: “It was a tough contest, especially as many teams were racing at an international level, and to finish second is a massive achievement for our team.

“Their endurance was certainly tested. Everyone was communicating with each other, as winning in sports depends on teamwork sometimes.

“Credit goes to the other teams as well. Some of them have come all the way to Bahrain to participate in the race and they did their best.” he added.

Additionally, Dr. Al Aseeri praised the work of the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) since its establishment in 2004 by His Highness Crown Prince Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, bringing in international media attention to the Kingdom to live to its name as “The Home Of Motorsport” in the Middle East.

“Thousands of fans come to the Kingdom of Bahrain for the BIC’s exciting events, notably the annual Bahrain Grand Prix. They have done a great job over the years and we wish them lots of success.” concluded Dr. Al Aseeri.
