Bahrain Polytechnic Bachelor of International Logistics Management is the first in the GCC to be accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) after fulfilling all the academic requirements for the Charter Membership of the Institute.
CILT, which received its UK Royal Charter in 1926, is a global professional body with over 33,000 members in over 30 countries. The accreditation allows the BILM to join an elite list of degrees of the same standing, one of only a hand few outside of the UK and the first in the GCC region.
John Webb, Head of School of the Polytechnic stated: “This is a really big deal for us and is culmination for a very successful year. Earlier this year, Bahrain Polytechnic was nominated as finalists as best education provider in the Supply Chain and Transport Awards in Dubai where we went head to head with established institutes including Herriot-Watt University, the University of Wollongong and Dubai Trade Training Department.
“More recently, one of our students won an international CILT Award for best undergraduate project as result of her work with DHL here in Bahrain. CILT’s recent accreditation is not only recognition of the quality of the degree itself but also of the hard work of staff in the Polytechnic over the last 5 years.
“Furthermore, it is also recognition of the international standards of our students and provides them with post-graduate pathways to over 150 institutes worldwide.” stated Mr. Webb.
Keith Newton, Secretary General of CILT, commented on Bahrain Polytechnic’s degree programme: “We are very impressed with what the Polytechnic has achieved over the past five years. In 2009, the Polytechnic began delivering CILT’s certificate and diploma courses. Now, it offers a full degree programme to over 300 students. In our recent accreditation visit, we scored Bahrain Polytechnic top marks in all our assessment categories including learning methods, quality assurance and learning support.
“Perhaps the biggest factor in our decision was the quality and international nature of the staff. The Polytechnic’s School of Maritime & Logistics has a team of academically qualified but, far more importantly, highly experienced staff from transport and logistics industry sectors in all corners of the globe.
“We are very excited about the prospect of being able to contribute to the training of logistics professionals in Bahrain.” concluded Mr. Newton.
The Bachelor of International Logistics Management (BILM) began in 2009 at the request of the industry and also in response to the 2030 Economic Vision for Bahrain. Students study a wide range of transport and logistics courses including: security, supply-chain management, maritime logistics, aviation logistics, road and rail and public transport. As part of their studies, students also gain professional qualifications from CILT, which are internationally recognized by industry. Entry is highly competitive and it is one of the most popular degree programmes at the Polytechnic.
