Bahrain Polytechnic signed an agreement with Shell Overseas Services Ltd (“Shell”), aiming to provide support to students of the School of Engineering Technology at the Polytechnic to participate in the Shell Eco-marathon Asia Pacific and Middle East 2025. The agreement was signed by the CEO of the Polytechnic, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, and Mr. Mohammed Fahad Alzumaia, Country Chairman of Shell in Saudi Arabia & Bahrain, in the presence of a number of Polytechnic officials and a delegation from Shell.

The Shell Eco-marathon is one of the world’s leading global engineering competition challenging student teams to design, build, and drive ultra-energy-efficient vehicles. At the heart of the competition is a challenge with long-lasting implications for us all: how far can we travel using as little energy as possible? Students push the boundaries of engineering and innovation, creating vehicles that redefine mobility. On the track, these vehicles undergo rigorous energy-efficiency tests, with winners crowned in each energy category. This journey not only tests their skills but also inspires groundbreaking solutions for a more sustainable future.

On this occasion, the CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, expressed his pleasure in signing this agreement, extending his sincere thanks to Shell for supporting the Bahrain Polytechnic team to participate in this global competition that will inspire young people to become pioneers and engineers in future energy solutions. He added: “At Bahrain Polytechnic, we believe that practical, technical, and vocational education leads to academic excellence, as our students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have acquired in a practical manner. This type of learning can only be achieved with the support of our partners from various industries who help us nurture and guide ambitious young minds. We are pleased to participate in this good initiative and look forward to impressive results.”

Shell Saudi Arabia and Bahrain Country Chairman, Mohammed Alzumaia, shared with enthusiasm: “We are incredibly proud to support Bahrain’s next generation of innovators and changemakers of tomorrow. Congratulations to Bahrain Polytechnic for becoming the first team from Bahrain to participate in the Shell Eco-marathon—a historic milestone. Having witnessed the exceptional capabilities of the institute, we are confident and excited to see them deliver a record-breaking performance at the race in Doha in the Shell Eco-marathon 2025 season.”
