Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) is an industry-funded cooperative specializing in the response to oil spills by providing preparedness and intervention services to clients around the world. The OSRL Middle East operation is located in the Kingdom of Bahrain and it is from here that they respond to any oil crisis in the GCC.
In celebrating 10 years of OSRL’s physical presence in the region & the rollout of the recently completed Oil Spill Response Joint Industry Project, OSRL Middle East hosted a Technical Forum and Training Workshop in conjunction with IPIECA in November 2016.
One of our final year BILM industry project students is currently placed in OSRL Middle East offices. Due to the success of this assignment an invitation to attend the Technical Forum was extended to 15 BILM students.
Participating in this exclusive forum was a great opportunity for BILM students to meet delegates from the oil and gas industry, active in HSEQ and Emergency/Oil Spill Response companies such as Saudi Aramco, Bapco, Tatweer Petroleum and ExonMobil were in attendance.
The conference provided a valuable insight into the importance of preparedness in resource allocation and having effective and efficient logistics solutions in order for companies to respond to oil spills.
The address made by Mr Rob Cox, Technical Director of IPIECA, focussed on logistics preparedness for the new Boeing 727 platform and the importance of being able to deploy critical response equipment to any destination, at any time, in an effective and efficient manner. Cox highlighted how the accurate preloading of aircraft pallets, customs sealed dispersants and pre-packed equipment can have a huge impact on spill response time.
The key theme repeated several times during the forum was the need for outstanding logistics solutions to support the response ef-fort.
BILM students were grateful for the opportunity to attend this forum, they gained great insight into this niche segment of the oil and gas in-dustry.
