Students of the Bachelor of Business (Banking & Finance) Program Taking Steps to Career Success through Preparation for the CFA Program

Bahrain Polytechnic has become the latest applied high education institution to be welcomed into the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program. The Bachelor of Business (Banking & Finance) Program has been acknowledged as incorporating at least 70 percent of the CFA Program curriculum and placing emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct within the program. This positions students well to pursue the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) charter, one of the most respected and recognized investment credentials globally.

Entry into the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that Bahrain Polytechnic’s curriculum is closely aligned with professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students for the CFA Program examinations.

Through this affiliation, Bahrain Polytechnic is eligible to receive a limited number of CFA Program Student Scholarships each year.

Offered since the 2009–2010 academic year, Bahrain Polytechnic’s Bachelor of Business (Banking & Finance) program develops graduates with the expertise and agility demanded by today’s financial world. The program covers key areas including banking operations, corporate finance, investment analysis, and risk management, ensuring students gain both depth and breadth across financial disciplines.

Grounded in a problem-based learning model, the program connects academic knowledge with industry practice, encouraging students to solve real-world financial challenges. This hands-on approach strengthens analytical thinking, decision-making, and adaptability—skills that enhance employability and prepare graduates to contribute effectively to financial institutions, corporations, and regulatory bodies across local and global markets.

On this occasion, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic, stated:
“We are delighted to have our Bachelor of Business (Banking & Finance) program recognized by the CFA Institute. This affiliation underscores our commitment to delivering a curriculum that is closely aligned with industry standards and professional practice. It provides our students with an exceptional pathway to career success and the opportunity to achieve the globally recognized CFA charter.”

Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic, affirmed that the college is working on expanding its apprenticeship programs and updating their curricula to keep pace with the latest technological developments. The goal is to provide a comprehensive learning experience that enables trainees to transition smoothly from the classroom to the workplace, enhancing their readiness and making them the preferred choice for employers across various sectors.

He highlighted that efforts are underway to develop existing apprenticeship programs, noting that three of them have been included in the National Qualifications Framework (NQF): the Diploma Apprenticeship in Electrical, the Diploma Apprenticeship in Mechanical (Welding), and the Diploma Apprenticeship in Automotive Technology. Work continues to include the remaining apprenticeship programs in the framework.

Professor Ó Catháin explained that Bahrain Polytechnic continues its efforts to provide high-quality education and training, aligning learning outcomes with labor market needs. This contributes to qualifying national talent and reflects the college’s appreciation for constructive collaboration with industrial sector partners, which enhances integration between academic programs and the country’s economic development requirements.

Bahrain Polytechnic’s apprenticeship programs are distinguished by their integration of theoretical classroom learning with practical on-the-job training through strategic partnerships with various public and private sector institutions. This approach allows trainees to acquire technical skills, professional practices, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities, thereby enhancing their employability upon graduation. The college continuously develops its curricula and programs in collaboration with employers and industrial institutions to ensure alignment with the latest technologies and global standards.

Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla affirmed that the continuous development of the education sector at all levels, under the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the guidance of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, reflects the Kingdom’s firm belief that investing in education is an investment in a future built on creativity and excellence, and closely aligned with national development needs.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that building qualified national capabilities is a key pillar in enhancing productivity and improving the efficiency of the national economy by preparing a generation equipped with knowledge and innovation, capable of contributing to the Kingdom’s progress in line with the government’s priorities and the objectives of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, which places Bahraini citizens at the centre of development as its main driver and ultimate goal.

He also highlighted the Polytechnic’s new approach to expanding its reach through new branches across the Kingdom’s governorates, facilitating access to its educational services, increasing student capacity, and supplying the labour market with more specialised skills.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his appreciation to Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of Bahrain Polytechnic’s Board of Trustees, the Board members, and the academic and administrative staff for their efforts in advancing the Polytechnic’s development.

Following the ceremony, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla presented certificates to master’s degree graduates and outstanding undergraduate students.

For his part, Dr. Juma expressed his appreciation to HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for his patronage of the ceremony, and expressed thanks to the Deputy Prime Minister for attending the ceremony, reaffirming his continuous support and close follow-up of the higher education sector in the Kingdom.

Bahrain Polytechnic has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with Exceed IT Services W.L.L. (Exceeders), aimed at strengthening partnership in applied education, professional training, innovation, and collaboration with the local and regional industrial sector.

This agreement opens new horizons for Polytechnic students by connecting them with real projects executed for actual clients through the Innovation Center, enabling them to gain practical experience that enhances their skills and prepares them for the labor market.

Under the MoU, both parties will collaborate to identify the technical training needs of students, provide resources and platforms that support their qualification, and assign points of contact to assist them during project phases, ensuring a comprehensive educational experience that integrates both theoretical and practical aspects.

This partnership also contributes to facilitating employment opportunities for graduates by enabling them to connect with a broad network of industry partners and professional communities locally and internationally. Moreover, this MoU supports student and academic initiatives within the framework of shared social responsibility, and works on maintaining and deploying solutions and products developed by students after graduation whenever possible.

In this regard, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic, said:
“Signing the MoU with Exceeders represents a strategic step toward achieving our vision at Bahrain Polytechnic to provide high-quality education based on practical application, directly contributing to preparing our students to be effective in the labor market immediately upon graduation.”

He added:
“We believe in the importance of partnerships with private sector institutions, as they are a fundamental pillar in linking educational outcomes to actual market needs. Through this cooperation, our students will be able to work on real projects, receive specialized technical training, and engage with real professional challenges. This partnership also supports our directions to enhance innovation and entrepreneurship, encouraging students to transform their ideas into practical technological solutions, while providing the appropriate environment to develop these solutions even after graduation.”

For his part, Mr. Samer El Chayati, Regional Sales Director at Exceed IT Services W.L.L., stated:
“We at Exceeders are very pleased to sign the MoU with Bahrain Polytechnic, as this partnership represents an ideal opportunity to bring the industrial sector closer to educational institutions. We believe that supporting students through real projects and practical training is the best way to build a generation of outstanding professionals capable of facing the rapidly changing market challenges. This initiative reflects our commitment to contributing to the development of national capabilities and enhancing the knowledge economy in Bahrain and the region. We look forward to ongoing cooperation that yields tangible results serving students and the community.”

Bahrain Polytechnic has officially inaugurated the “SICO” Cybersecurity Research Lab, established with the support of SICO BSC (c), a leading regional asset manager, broker, and investment bank with direct presence in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

On this occasion, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic, emphasized the importance of this initiative in supporting national efforts to enhance the higher education ecosystem. He noted that cybersecurity is one of the promising future fields witnessing increasing demand both locally and internationally, and that the establishment of this lab will enable students to engage in advanced practical experiences and conduct high-quality research projects that contribute to the development of their technical capabilities and skills. He also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to SICO for this pioneering initiative, which reflects its commitment to supporting education and fostering partnerships with higher education institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain. This, he added, contributes to preparing qualified national cadres capable of meeting labor market requirements and strengthening national competitiveness in this vital sector.

Najla Al Shirawi, Group CEO of SICO, commented, “We are delighted to be part of this essential initiative that contributes to equipping outstanding national talent with the tools they need to succeed in the field of cybersecurity. We firmly believe that investing in education is the key to a safer and more innovative future for the Kingdom, and this initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to empowering Bahraini youth and preparing them for the demands of the labor market.”

The new lab is a state-of-the-art research facility equipped with high-performance computing systems. It serves as a key support component for Bahrain Polytechnic’s newly launched Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, while also providing students and academic researchers with the opportunity to conduct advanced experiments, collect data, and carry out applied research. The lab is expected to further pave the way for expanded academic and professional pathways in the field of cybersecurity, supporting Bahrain’s growing need for highly skilled specialists.
