Top-up degrees are aimed at those who have successfully completed a Higher National Diploma (HND) or Diploma and want to study further and progress to the final year of our degree programs. Joining a top-up degree will allow you to build on your previous learning, gain credits and graduate with a full undergraduate degree.

How long will a top up degree take?

The Top-Up program has a duration of two years and two months, structured as follows:

 

  • Semester Zero: This initial semester lasts for two months. During this period, students take core subjects that count towards their cumulative GPA. It is considered a prerequisite for admission into the program, and students must successfully pass all courses in this semester to continue in the Top-Up program.
  • Two Academic Years: Each academic year consists of three semesters, with each semester lasting approximately three months.

How much does it cost?

Tuition fees are normally based on the number of credits studied per semester. Fees will be charged as follows:

  • BHD 50 – Admission fees (non-refundable & non-transferable)
  • BHD 400 – Semester 0 (45 credits, a qualifying program for the top-up degree)
  • BHD 5100 – Semester 1 to Semester 6 (255 credits, BHD 20 per credit)

Entry Requirements

All applicants must provide the following documents:

1.    Academic Records

  •  Secondary School Certificates.

2.    Identification Documents

  •  A copy of a valid passport.
  • A copy of a valid identity card (e.g., Smart Card).

3.    Medical Reports

  • Bahraini Applicants: A medical report issued by a government medical Center.
  • Non-Bahraini Applicants: A medical report issued by a government medical Center or any private health center.

4.    Equivalence Letter

  • Required only for applicants from private schools or those who completed high school abroad (Only for applicants who completed their high school in non-governmental school within GCC countries).

5.    Evidence of Good Conduct

  • Bahrainis, a recent document of good conduct issued within one year of applying by a governmental body.
  • Non-Bahraini Applicants: Evidence of good conduct may be accepted from any recognized authority.

6.    The applicant is responsible for submitting the documents in Arabic or English only.

 

General Entry Requirements for Top-Up Programmes

1.    Academic Qualifications

  • Applicants must provide evidence of a relevant qualification equivalent to a Level 6 Diploma on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
  • The name of the institution or university where the Level 6 qualification or equivalent was obtained must be included.

2.    Eligible Fields of Study

  • Admission to the programme will be based on the approved diploma fields that are eligible for acceptance.
  • Students who completed their Diploma from Bahrain Polytechnic will be exempted from semester 0.

What teaching and assessment strategy will be used?

The top-up is delivered through a mixture of classroom teaching, tutorials, guest speakers, online(web-based), laboratory work, workshops, problem-based learning, supervised brief and extended projects, field trips and workplace experience. Assessment of courses is both formative and summative, and typically includes a combination of continuous and controlled assessments. The emphasis is on projects, case studies, practical exams, lab experiments and tasks, assignments, presentations, and interviews.
