Transfer – Current Students

Current students in Bahrain Polytechnic can apply for Programme/Major/Minor transfer in each semester, in accordance with the Student Admission Policy. The Admissions Department will review the applications and inform the students of the decision via e-mail.

 

Steps to apply for a transfer

  • A student must ensure that s/he meets the criteria of the transfer (as mentioned below).
  • A student must complete the Programme/Major/Minor transfer form ONLINE during the announced period (click here to see the dates for transfer periods).

Transfer Criteria

The transfer request is accepted according to the student’s fulfillment of the transfer criteria as shown below:

General Transfer Requirements:

  • Seats must be available in the required programme/major/minor.
  • Seek Academic Advising before completing the transfer request at the Career and Employment Centre or from the Programme Manager.
  • Meet the Entry Requirements for the programme/major/minor they want to transfer to.
  • Submit a transfer request to the Registry within the published period.
  • Scholarship or sponsorship students who want to transfer or change their programme/major must inform their scholarship providers and submit an approval letter from them. For further details, kindly contact our scholarships coordinator via email heyam.juma@polytechnic.bh.
  • A transfer request will be invalid if the student does not complete all the procedures and requirements during the period specified.
  • Foundation students may change their preference for undergraduate (degree) academic programme only once.
  • Students at the Undergraduate (degree) level may transfer from one academic programme to another programme only once. They can transfer from one major to another major or drop a major only once throughout their study.
  • Transfer requests will be rejected if the Dean and Faculty Board advise that there is no space for transferring.
  • If the transfer is approved, students must seek Academic Advising before course registration to register themselves correctly for the coming semester.

Transfer Programme in Foundation

  • Foundation students may change their preference for undergraduate (degree) academic programmes only once.
  • The transfer will be counted as part of the maximum period allowed for completing the academic program.
  • Academic Progression procedures (A/AB/018) will be applied to all student records starting from the transfer semester.

Transfer Programme in degree (Programme level)

  • Must have successfully earned 60 credit hours as a minimum and 225 credits as a maximum.
  • Students at the Undergraduate (degree) level may transfer from one academic programme to another programme only once throughout their study.
  • The Cumulative GPA (CGPA) is calculated from the date of transfer to the new programme.
  • The student can apply for Credit Recognition (A/AB/012) for prior learning and, if approved, transfer Bahrain Polytechnic courses they have passed to equivalents in the new Programme. Course grades with no equivalent in the new Programme will be excluded from the CGPA calculation. All courses and grades will remain on the student transcript.
  • The transfer will not be counted as part of the maximum period allowed for completing the academic program.
  • Academic Progression procedures (A/AB/018) will be applied to all student records starting from the transfer semester.

Major Transfer

  • Students can transfer from one major to another or drop a major only once throughout their studies.
  • The Cumulative GPA (CGPA) will remain the same and will not be re-calculated after the transfer.
  • If the major transferred student exceeds 480 earned credits, the tuition fee rate will be changed from Bahraini to non-Bahraini.
  • Course grades with no equivalent in the new major will NOT be excluded from the CGPA calculation and will be counted as electives. All courses and grades will remain on the student transcript.

Minor Transfer

  • Students can transfer from one minor to another minor or drop a minor only once throughout their study.
  • All minor grades will be excluded from the CGPA, including any WF or F grades for the courses completed from the minor.
  • Course grades with no equivalent in the new minor will be excluded from the CGPA calculation. All courses will remain on the student transcript.
  • If the minor transferred student exceeds 480 earned credits, the tuition fee rate will be changed from Bahraini to non-Bahraini.
  • Students can request to count passing courses from minors as electives by applying for the Credit Recognition Form.
