Four students were awarded by Bahrain Polytechnic’s management after attending in the 10th ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition in Paris, France; a weeklong contest which tested the contender’s skills in negotiation and alternative dispute resolution.
Being the first country from the GCC to participate in such a prestigious competition, the Polytechnic entered the competition for a second time to challenge over 500 participants from more than 50 countries around the globe.
The format of the competition leaves students to resolve complex commercial scenarios through a mediation session. Beforehand, teams are given confidential information in which parties can use to their advantage.
Dr. Mohamed Al Aseeri, Acting CEO of the Polytechnic, was present during the awarding ceremony and stated: “I’m sure the students were proud to represent not only Bahrain Polytechnic, but the Kingdom as well, being the first GCC country to participate. We [the Polytechnic] stress on providing high quality education and best international practices.
“Of course, this all comes under Bahrain’s 2030 Vision of enhancing education in the Kingdom, as well as the government action plan 2015-2018 and our recently approved Strategic Plan 2015-2019 by our chairman Sheikh Hisham Bin Abdulaziz Al Khalifa.” concluded the Acting CEO.
After the awarding ceremony, Yusuf Al Aseeri, one of the Polytechnic students, said: “My experience with the ICC Mediation Week competition was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. It was both an educational and a fun experience, as I got to meet some of the most wonderful people around the world. Moreover, it was a great self-development opportunity. I feel very honoured to have been chosen to represent Bahrain and the gulf as a whole, and would not replace the experience with anything else.”
Noof Albinali, another student, commented: “Being granted the prestigious opportunity to participate in the ICC competition was an opportunity that enabled personal growth and the enhancement of certain skills and abilities especially my communication skills, interpersonal skills and problem solving. My main reason for taking initiative to apply for the competition was my eagerness to change and improve and I truly believe this was the perfect opportunity.”
Dr. Al-Aseeri thanked the students, Ms. Yasmin and the staff for doing their part for the organization of the trip and performing in the competition. Additionally, the students thanked the executive management for giving them the opportunity and support to participate at the ICC Competition.
