Bahrain Polytechnic, in collaboration with Peninsula Farms, participated in the 12th edition of the Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) 2016 which was held from Thursday, 25th February until Sunday, 28th February at the Bahrain International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The event was held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain and the support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of the King of Bahrain, President of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development.

Polytechnic students presented their projects during the show, including the ‘indoor aquaponic system’, the bee pollinator, and greenhouse automation systems. Additionally, a booklet was available to illustrate the Polytechnic’s interest in the field of agriculture and its partnership with a number of stakeholders.

Acting CEO of the Polytechnic, Dr. Mohamed Al Aseeri, expressed his pride on the Polytechnic’s annual participation in BIGS, and gave his sincere thanks to Her Royal Highness Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa for visiting the Polytechnic stand during the exhibition and witness the students’ agricultural projects.

He also added that the Polytechnic will continue to participate in events that serve the agricultural sector, giving a chance for the students to show their competencies, thus contributing to achieving the Polytechnic’s vision of getting involved with the Bahraini community. This is also in line with the government work plan 2015-2019 and Bahrain 2030 Vision.

The Polytechnic recently replaced its “Conocarpus” trees from the campus, as its expansion of roots would affect the nearby gardens. They were replaced with environmental-friendly fruit trees (such as mango and palm trees) where students can take advantage of edible fruit and shaded areas during the summer.
