Ministry of Health Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Bahrain Polytechnic in the Fields of Education, Training and Health Development

His Excellency Dr. Waleed Bin Khalifa Al Manea, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the importance of collaborative training and education programmes that would refine the skills of health personnel through effective collaboration between the relevant organizations in the fields of education and training, research, innovation and creativity.

As a result, the Ministry of Health signed a memorandum of understanding with Bahrain Polytechnic, which was signed by His Excellency Dr. Waleed Bin Khalifa Al Manea from the Ministry of Health, and Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, the CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic, in the presence of representatives

The memorandum of understanding mainly aims to strengthen cooperation from both sides in the field of education, training and health development which contributes to the engagement of individuals in the labor market effectively and efficiently, in embodiment with the Bahrain 2030 Vision while adhering to the needs of the labor market.

On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Waleed Bin Khalifa Al Manea has expressed his gratitude and appreciation towards Bahrain Polytechnic for their immense interest in supporting events and health programmes which aims to improve the health sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain. His Excellency also commended the overall efforts, initiatives, and achievements of Bahrain Polytechnic, especially their collaboration and joint coordination skills with the Ministry of Health in health-related areas.

Professor Ó Catháin stated that signing the memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health comes under Bahrain Polytechnic’s mission to strengthen partnerships with various industries and its commitment to provide lifelong learning opportunities. He added that Bahrain Polytechnic seeks along to deliver high quality health services in coordination with the Ministry of Health through its education and training programmes.

Professor Ó Catháin noted that the Polytechnic sees this cooperation as an approach to improving health services and patient care, which supports the health field in the Kingdom, by supplying health care institutions with a cadre of experienced and national professionals. He added that this initiative falls under the Polytechnic’s Strategic Plan 2023-26 which aims to provide education and training programmes which is in line with Bahrain’s 2030 Vision, especially after the introduction of the Allied Health Directorate at the Polytechnic. The Directorate will be responsible in supporting the health sector by producing a number of programmes that will develop Bahraini citizens in the field, whereby providing Polytechnic students with job opportunities which aids in the development of the national economy.

Under the terms of the memorandum of understanding, both Bahrain Polytechnic and the Ministry of Health seeks to coordinate in many areas, such as student work placement, collaborative projects, internships, professional training, exchanging knowledge, experience, ideas, and evaluate the students’ performance which allows them to raise their chances of acquiring jobs. The cooperation also includes participating in developing case studies, research projects, and industry specialized projects to be included in its curriculum based on problem-solving, in addition to organizing visits, forums, conferences and hosting guest lecturers. Moreover, the cooperation includes the possibility of providing scholarship programmes for Bahrain Polytechnic students for research projects and collaborative events.

It is worth mentioning that Bahrain Polytechnic, in collaboration with the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA), has launched the first training programme in the Kingdom to receive a certificate in “Infection Prevention and Control”. The programme mainly targets health care specialists, providing them with knowledge and skills that will enable them to obtain an accredited certificate in infection prevention and control. It will also enable them to plan and apply infection prevention and control standards and guidelines in various health care institutions, to provide a healthy environment for all their clients. By completing this training program, the trainee will receive a certificate in infection prevention and control and will gain new skills in the respective field, which will be highly appliable in the work place.
