Bahrain Polytechnic Hosts ICT & Web Academy Project Exhibition 2016

On 8th June 2016, the School of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Web Academy held its Project Exhibition for the second semester of this academic year 2015-2016 at the Bahrain Polytechnic’s campus, held under the patronage of Acting CEO of the Polytechnic, Dr. Mohamed Al Aseeri. More than fifty projects undertaken by Polytechnic students were showcased to various stakeholders. The aim of the project exhibition is to demonstrate ICT and Web Media solutions developed by young Bahrainis. Projects developed at Bahrain Polytechnic campus and work placement were presented to industry partners.

The school of ICT and web academy presented commercial level solutions. The projects included web-based applications, smartphone Apps, and network and systems infrastructure for small, medium and enterprise organization. Additionally, the Bachelor of ICT presented “Quick-shop” business startup and Microsoft Imagine Cup Award winning team “Vanguards”, who will present Bahrain during the finals in Seattle, USA. The Bachelor of Web Media presented scenes documentary from the “Film Festival” as well as some of the winning entries. These solutions are in line with the Polytechnic mission to provide a skilled workforce that supports the economy.

Global enterprise application and software company SAP participated as a strategic partner in the event, sponsoring Project of the Year Awards and launching the SAP Next-Gen Consulting in MENA to support student innovations that develop design concepts and app prototypes for the SAP ecosystem. As an SAP University Alliance Strategic Partner, Bahrain Polytechnic is helping to educate students on SAP technology.

“Partnering with Bahrain Polytechnic, one of Bahrain’s educational leaders, furthers SAP’s support for Bahrain’s workforce of the future, and these student projects showed that Bahrain’s youth are at the forefront of using innovative technology to solve complex challenges. We are dedicated to helping youth reach their dreams, find meaningful employment, and support Bahrain’s Digital Economy,” said Wissam Kadi, Director of SAP Education Network for Digital Transformation in MENA.

Dr. Mohamed Al Aseeri, Acting CEO, and Sh. Ali bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Deputy CEO of Resources & Information Affairs, Dr. Philippe Pringuet, Dean of the EDICT Faculty, and Ms. Catherine Walker, Director of Student Services were part of the Polytechnic’s executive management team that toured around the projects and commended the industry mentors, faculty and students work.

Dr. Al Aseeri commented: “This is the sixth exhibition we have hosted for the School of ICT and Web Academy, and this goes to show the success of these exhibitions. Our students had the chance to show their projects to our industry partners, which is good exposure for them. We teach our students using the problem-based learning (PBL) approach, which focuses on practical learning. This ensures they leave the Polytechnic as work-ready graduates, as part of our Strategic Plan 2015-2019, as well as the Bahrain 2030 Vision and government work plan 2015-2018.”
