Bahrain Polytechnic was announced the winner of the 2019 CFA Institute Research Challenge in Bahrain, winning other universities in a close competition hosted by CFA Society Bahrain, the Kingdom’s association for local investment professionals.
The competing teams produced an equity research report on the financial performance of Bahrain Telecommunication Company (Batelco), which was then judged by CFA Society Bahrain and representatives from SICO and Bank of Bahrain & Kuwait (BBK) based on accuracy, insight and analysis.
Bahrain Polytechnic team members from the Banking and Finance major (Sereen Abuodeh, Maryam Alkhenaizi, Maryam Aljawhara, Munya Sabkar and Bader Alameer) will compete in the EMEA Regional Final in Zurich, Switzerland between 10-11 April 2019, against other teams from universities around the world. The winning team will then compete in the Global Final on 25 April in New York, USA.
This year’s competition featured four universities including: University of Bahrain, Bahrain Polytechnic, Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) and Strathclyde Business School.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge offers students the unique opportunity to develop and present an equity research report and compete on a global basis. Students learn from leading industry experts and their mentors and peers from the world’s top business schools. This annual educational initiative is designed to promote best practices in equity research among the next generation of analysts through hands-on mentoring and intensive training in company analysis and presentation skills.
Each team was closely mentored by a professional research analyst and CFA charter holder during the initial research process. After drafting the report and receiving feedback from the designated mentor, each team writes a final research report which is presented to a panel of experts from top financial institutions.
