Bahrain Polytechnic has recently launched its Pilot English and Math Bridging programme for final year students in five technical and vocational secondary schools in Bahrain. The programme was launched with an aim to develop students’ skills in English and mathematics to raise their level to meet the entry requirements of Bahrain Polytechnic. The programme was launched as part of the Polytechnic’s 2023-2026 strategic plan to deliver high quality applied education for students which is in line with national ambitions.

In its first phase, the Bridging Programme attracted 228 students, from Nasser Vocational Training Center (NVTC), Al-Jabiriya Secondary Technical School, Jidhafs Secondary Technical School, Sh. Abdulla bin Isa Al-Khalifa Secondary Technical School, and Sh. Khalifa bin Salman Institute of Technology. The students were subjected to an initial assessment at the start of the programme, whereas a final assessment will be conducted by the end of the programme to assess their performance and progress.

Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, Bahrain Polytechnic’s CEO, explained: “The Bridging Programme is introduced under the framework of the Polytechnic’s Strategic Plan 2023-2026, that is in line with the Bahrain 2030 Vision, to enhance educational opportunities through upskilling and reskilling programmes. Our distributive campus approach will enable the Polytechnic to expand its reach and adopt flexible learning opportunities.

Ms. Diana Sarhan, Bahrain Polytechnic’s Advisor to the CEO, stated: “The aim of launching this programme is to enhance the level of final year secondary school students in both English and Mathematics, to help them pass the entry tests at the Polytechnic, and to provide them the opportunity to select their major. The Bridging Programme will also shorten the students’ learning pathway for them to join their desired programmes and get their bachelor’s degree in less time. In addition, students who complete the Bridging Programme will be given enrollment priority for the upcoming academic year 2023-2024.”

“Flexibility in time and venue were also taken into consideration when developing the programme in order to provide ease of access for both students and their parents. Classes will commence after school hours, starting from 3 PM – 7 PM, twice a week for a period of three weeks, which will be conducted within their respective schools accompanied by tutors from the Polytechnic.” Ms. Sarhan concluded.

The Polytechnic offers a variety of courses and programmes, including short courses, accredited courses, and customized training programmes, that meet the requirements of companies and individuals who are looking to advance their skillset.
